Many thanks to everyone who visited me on the FASM Studio Art Tour at the end of September, and especially to those who took something home with them. It is always a delight to meet new people and greet the neighbours and other friends who take the time to show their support. Every visitor offers such interesting and enlightening comments, suggestions, and insight about my work, which becomes a treasure trove of invaluable ideas for future consideration.
This year, the conversations and comments really worked their magic. Usually, I scurry to complete pieces in time for Studio Tour - who doesn't? - and this year was no different. Many of the unfinished pieces perched on the Art Ledge, which had been there for far-too-long, were all nearly done, I just needed to dedicate the time to get them there, and did manage to complete six during the week leading up to Studio Tour - quite an accomplishment considering I had the enormous task of cleaning the studio as well. Who would even have thought that I would have the energy, let alone any creative juice left in me, to continue to complete paintings after the tour?
But like sparks catching fire, these ideas pulled me into the studio every day for the next two weeks, painting and framing, framing and painting, and painting some more. Over the two weeks between Studio Tour and Thanksgiving, I had completed another six paintings from the 'Ledge, completed three from scratch for specific exhibitions, and had another four framed.
I know! I was on fire!
And, not unlike a fire which creates its own sparks, I have continued to burn with productivity and creativity, the new original paintings I have finished leading to even more ideas, and sometimes coming so fast I have had to jot them down because I could not paint fast enough.
A small selection of the paintings I have completed this fall:
I am forever grateful to everyone who shared their insightful comments and conversations during Studio Tour and caused the sparks to fly. Thank you!
